The Celebration of a man and a deer.

It is already spring outside, no fog, the Sun is shining, the temperature is -30 C'.

 The 16th and 17th of March were the Days of Deer Herders in our city.

The herders came with their deers from far lands of Yakutia. Some interesting competitions and contests were held. Deers are rarity too even in our snowy northern city: we can't see them everyday. Reindeer is amazing animal.

Antlers are used in folk medicine. A deer whole goes for use: hides, meat and tendons. 

Deers eat arboreal lichen, grass, leaves, mushrooms, berries. In winter they dig snow depth of 80 cm. Males of deers dump their horns in the beginning of winter, but females in the beginning of summer, after calving. They have horns in winter because  they repel males from their dug holes...

As at the 1st of November 2012 in Yakutia the amount of domesticated deers is more than 204 thousands...

And every year their numbers grow.
